Brand Blue, Printed Purple
The brand blue was approved on screen. On dye-sublimated fabric under hall lighting, it came back purple, and the whole booth looked off-brand.
What happened
Bright RGB blues often sit outside what print can reproduce. When the file was converted automatically for the printer, the closest printable colour drifted toward violet. Fabric, ink and the printer’s colour profile shifted it further.
Every panel was consistent, just consistently wrong, and right next to a competitor with perfectly matched colour.
What it cost
- A booth that did not match the brand, the screens or the sales collateral.
- A full reprint to fix a colour that could have been caught on a small swatch.
The spec that prevents it
- Define print values for brand colours (CMYK and Pantone), not just RGB and hex.
- Ask for the printer’s colour profile and convert with it, not with a generic setting.
- Request a physical strike-off on the actual fabric before the full run.
- Judge proofs under hall-like light, not by a window or on a monitor.
